Living in the Explorer by Mahoora Camp in Minneriya is spectacular. July to September is the time for elephant ‘gatherings’ that is indeed a wildlife wonder. The Campsite is located on the edge of a forest reserve giving you a true sense of wilderness living.
Explorer by Mahoora is for the adventurer who is looking for a sense of comfort and glamour in the midst of wilderness. The tent (15.6’x 8’) comes with a bedroom and an en-suite bathroom along with a private veranda/porch outside the tent.

Evening jeep Safari at Minneriya National Park commencing at 2.30 p.m.

The Gathering
Considered to be one of the wildlife wonders of the world, the elephant gathering in Minneriya takes place during the height of the drought between July and September, annually. Due to the drastic reduction of water supply to this region, elephant herds as large as 300 to 400, are seen gathering around the Minneriya reservoir. This “gathering” does not only demonstrate the beauty of elephant migration but also a unique array of activities of these animals such as socialising, finding mates,bathing, playing etc. Minneriya Reservoir becomes a playground for these large herds of elephants, who look to jest and frolic.
The gathering is an amazing highlight and stupendous sight for any wildlife enthusiast.
